Why families pick Six Fins

The Key West jet ski tour that doesn’t feel like a herd

Most Key West jet ski operators load 20 to 25 skis behind one guide and call it a tour. With kids on the back, that’s a long string of waverunners moving at the pace of the slowest rider, with the guide unable to actually flex for who’s on board. Six Fins runs six skis max per departure. The guide can keep eyes on every family on the water, slow the pace for the kid who’s nervous, and pick up the pace once everyone’s loosened up.

Per-jet-ski pricing matters too. A family of three on one ski pays $209 for the 2-hour tour. Same family on three separate operators’ per-person pricing pays three times that. The Yamaha VX is built for 3 riders — one parent driving, up to two kids on the back — and Six Fins prices it that way.

Every booking also includes a complimentary Perry Hotel & Marina day pass. Pool, on-property restaurants, and the resort’s shuttle into downtown Key West. Most families use it for lunch after the ride.

Frequently asked

Family jet ski tour questions

How old does a kid have to be to ride?

There’s no minimum age to ride as a passenger behind an adult driver. The minimum age to drive a jet ski in Florida is 14 with a Florida Boater Safety Education ID, but on a guided tour most families have one parent driving and the kids on the back.

How many people can fit on one ski?

Up to 3 riders. The Yamaha Waverunner VX Series seats one driver and up to two passengers. Same flat price covers 1, 2, or 3 riders — so a parent plus two kids fits on one ski at the same cost as one adult.

Is there a weight limit?

The Yamaha VX is rated for a combined load of about 460 pounds across all riders. For most families that’s not a limit — a parent plus two kids fits comfortably. If you have specific weight questions, call (305) 906-2880 and we’ll talk through it.

Which tour works best with kids?

Depends on age and stamina. 1-Hour Freestyle ($160) is good for younger kids and first-timers — supervised, no long route. 90-Min Premium Tour ($189) includes a sandbar stop where kids can jump off and swim. 2-Hour Flagship ($209) is the full 28-mile lap — best for older kids who can handle 2 hours with stops along the way.

What about safety with kids on board?

Six Fins is FWC-permitted (the Florida credential that matters for jet ski livery). Every rider gets a fitted Type III life vest sized for their body — we have child sizes. Every guided tour is led by a local guide on radio with the group. Six-ski max means the guide can actually keep eyes on each family on the water.
