What the credentials mean.

Every Six Fins captain and guide holds the credential required by law for their role. Here’s the difference between the two.

Boat Captains

USCG Captain’s License

Our boat captains hold a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License — officially the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) credential. This is the federal license required by law for anyone running a for-hire vessel carrying passengers on U.S. waters. It requires documented sea time, passing a Coast Guard exam, and a background check. When you’re on a Six Fins charter, your captain is federally licensed.

Jet Ski Guides

FWC Personal Watercraft Livery Permit

Our jet ski guides hold a Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) personal watercraft livery permit — the state credential required for jet ski tour operators in Florida. This covers the operation of guided personal watercraft tours and rentals under Florida law. Our guides are permitted, trained on the routes, and on the water daily. They do not hold USCG captain’s licenses, which is the correct and expected credential structure for this type of operation.

Book with the crew.

Every trip is captained or guided by a member of this team. Max 6 skis on jet ski tours. Private boat charters for your group only.
