We head out in the late afternoon toward the backcountry and harbor edges where wild dolphins tend to feed, then time the turn so you're out on open water as the sky goes gold and the sun sinks into the Gulf. No dock-side schedule pushing you along, no crowd between you and the rail — just your group, the captain, and the kind of light people fly here for.

When to go, and how long it takes
Departure is set to the day's actual sunset, so the time shifts through the year — earlier in winter, later in summer. Plan on a couple of hours on the water, though length is yours to set on a private charter. The captain reads the conditions and times the run so the dolphins come on the way out and the sunset lands on the way back.
About the dolphins
The dolphins here are wild Atlantic bottlenose, not a show. They're seen on most trips, but they're wild animals — never guaranteed, never fed, never crowded. We watch from a respectful distance and let them do their thing, in line with NOAA's marine-life viewing guidelines. The captain knows the flats and channels where they tend to feed at that hour, which is what stacks the odds in your favor.
The sunset run
Once the light starts to turn, the engines come down and the afternoon slows.
